There are many times when people will find themselves dealing with extreme stress. Similarly, there are many causes for that high level of stress and anxiety to appear. A disaster is just one example of a situation that can produce unusual amounts of stress. In that kind of event, some of the most common reactions are strong denial and symptoms of shock. One or the other may arise more quickly immediately after the event. It is important to recognize that these are natural responses meant to offer protection to the individual. Let’s explore some more points as they concern dealing with extreme stress.There are some ways that people respond or react to extreme trauma that we already know. It is most interesting to see how people can react in a variety of patterns. For example, there may be immediate reactions or delayed reactions. A response could be over quickly, or it could go on for a long time. There could be certain type of circumstances that control how a person is able to deal with a situation. Sometimes stress reactions may not happen until after some time has passed, so the person may not connect them to their origins. There could be confusion and mistakes made about the origin of the reactions and how to handle them. For that reason, it is important to get a broad overview of ones circumstances when dealing with that kind of situation. We know that extremely stressful events and the ability to cope with them can vary from person to person and it also relies on the type of event that happened. The length of time for a reasonable recovery will depend on the intensity of the trauma as well as the nature of loss involved, if any. Previous experience in dealing with stress can also play an important role for the person as well. Coping and recovering shouldn’t take as long if a person has had previous experience in successfully dealing with a highly stressful situation. This kind of person will have the knowledge needed that will enable him or her to overcome the extreme or high stress.If you are an adult who is experiencing unusually extreme stress, then be assured there are positive ways to cope with it. You haven’t lost the ability to retain some degree of control over your life. The first thing to realize is you may have certain emotions that may be unusually intense in how they feel. The kind of stress you experienced could trigger stress reactions even in a typically normal situation. It is important to accept what has happened as well as become aware of what types of reactions you may have. Being aware is vital so that you are able to comprehend what you are experiencing. Awareness can become a tool that can used to your advantage should you ever experience an extremely stressful situation. Some people will not have the coping skills they need to deal with what has happened because they do not take time to consider consequences and the possible reactions to the event. So you can help your self
