Chronic Pain – The Pain That “Just Never Lets Up” : Chronic Pain

Chronic Pain

Article by Wellness Guy 001

It could be said that chronic pain “just never lets up”, drastically lowering the quality of life of the affected sufferer and frequently bringing on a state of depression and fear. It is medically accepted as a status of “chronic pain”, when it continues for more than six months with no reprieve.

Chronic pain is an important issue; possibly being the more costly health problem in the United States today. Considering that the economic expenditure for health care is skyrocketing, dealing with the fundamental cause together with the treatment of chronic pain becomes essential. One current approximation according to Walter Stewart, PhD, MPH, in the Journal of the American Medical Association, is a monstrous $ 61.2 billion for lost productivity on the job. Across the nation, chronic pain impacts at least one fourth of the overall citizenry and one half of the people afflicted with cancer.

As outlined by Sota Omoigui, MD, Division of Inflammation and Pain Research, L.A Pain Clinic, “We are proposing an unifying theory or law of pain, which states: The origin of all pain is inflammation and the inflammatory response.” He goes on to state that “Irrespective of the characteristic of the pain, whether it is sharp, dull, aching, burning, stabbing, numbing or tingling, all pain arise from inflammation and the inflammatory response.”

The fact is that, many in the medical arena are given insufficient training in the treatment of chronic pain. This condition becomes a point of annoyance and very disheartening for the individual and medical practitioner as well. Managing the symptoms is quite often the routine medical practice as opposed to dealing with the source of the chronically painful disorder.

Since chronic pain can last for many months or in many cases years, it continually wears on the wellbeing of the one afflicted. The individual battling chronic pain seldom gets adequate restful sleep; is oftentimes not able to stay mobile and active; is likely to experience focus issues and memory issues; is afflicted with impaired verbal functionality; and often sees their efficiency decline both at home and in their place of employment.

Chronic pain may vary from being mildly irritating and uncomfortable to unbearable and life-altering. The unrelenting physical pain might impact any area of your body and, even though it’s not really a normal manifestation of getting older, it can impact the aging population to a large degree. This is possibly simply because of the older generation being more likely to already have substantial health issues along with disorders that routinely produce frequent pain.

Back ache and head aches top the list of kinds of unremitting pain, with joint pain following close behind. Back pain, especially lower back pain, is undoubtedly the most prominent chronic pain affliction that physicians observe in their day-to-day clinical practices. Experts have noted
